In every organization (whether a startup or a large enterprise), there's a HiPPO - the highest paid person's opinion. During development, these stakeholders may try to sway the design of a product and often have a lot of power to do so. However, in many cases these stakeholders are also the most removed from the core user - and perhaps misrepresenting their needs.
Konrad Zielinski is a Software Engineer at Pivotal Labs and has encountered this issue during many of his projects with clients. We will talk about how Pivotal Labs incorporates a Discovery and Framing process using a balanced team to research and understand the needs of users and stakeholders. Throughout the course of a D&F phase, we ensure that HiPPOs are respected while at the same time serving to the user's most important needs.
